Department of Russian and Central Asian History

  Established in 1982, the Department of Russian and Central Asian History was originally named the Department of Russian and Eastern European History. The department focuses its researches on political, economic, diplomatic, social, ethnic, borderland, migration history, and historiographical studies of Russia and Central Asia. 

  Since its establishment, the department has undertaken a number of research projects sponsored by the National Social Science Fund of China, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and other national or local governmental  agencies. Besides, the department has also been engaged in academic exchanges actively with academic institutions and scholars in Russia, Central-Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and other countries. The department also completed many projects in the frame of international cooperation assigned by the CASS.  

  Currently, there are five research scholars in the department, including two research fellows, two associate research fellows, and one research assistant, all with Ph.D degree. Among them are one doctoral program supervisor and two master program supervisors. Till now, over 20 students have obtained master or doctoral degrees, or still in studying in the department, there are postdoctoral candidates finished their research project as well. Many of them are playing important roles in research or educational institutions. 

  The department hopes to promote cooperation and exchange with Chinese and foreign colleagues, and sincerely invites young talents who are interested in the studies of the history of relevant areas to join.
