Luo Wendong

  Luo is currently Secretary of the Party Committee and Deputy Director of the Institute of World History (IWH). He is also a professor and doctoral program supervisor of Marxism studies at the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.  

  Professor Luo Wendong earned his Bachelor of Philosphy degree and Master of Philosophy degree from Beijing Normal University respectively in 1989 and 1992. He received his Ph.D in philosophy from Renmin University of China in 1995. The same year he started working at the CASS.  

  Before came to the IWH in May 2019, he served many research and management posts, including Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Social Sciences in China Press and Editor-in-chief of the Chinese Social Sciences Net, Deputy Director of the Institute of Contemporary China, Deputy Director of the Office of Informatization Management, Chair at the Department of Marxism Development Studies of the Academy of Marxism. He also sits on many academic associations.  

  Luo’s research focuses on fundamental principles of Marxism and world history. He is the author or editor of over ten books, such as Theories and Practices of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics (2012), Review of Theoretical Schools of Contemporary Western Capitalism (chief editor, 2008), New Analysis of Contemporary Capitalism (second chief editor, 2006), and Humanitarianism and Modernization (second author, 1997). Luo has published over 100 articles on prominent journals, such as "Methods and Principles for Building the World History Research System" (Historical Research, No. 6, 2019), “Analysis and Criticism of European and American ‘Neo-Imperialism’”, (Social Sciences Abroad, No.5, 2012), "Relations between Marxism Theories on ‘World History’ and ‘Internationalization’ and New Developments of Transnational Monopoly Capitalism”, (Leading Journal of Ideological & Theoretical Education, No.6, 2009), and "Economic Globalization and New Developments of Transnational Monopoly Capitalism" , (Social Sciences in Chinese Higher Education Institutions, No.3, 2006). He wrote many research memos concerning his research field. Many of his works won key and outstanding research award at various levels.  

  Luo has completed many key and major projects at the aegis of the National Social Science Fund of China and the CASS. Now he still chairs several key and major projects.
