2019-06-13

On June the 11th, the first non-entity research centers of Chinese Academy of History(CAH) were established in Beijing. They will undertake the tasks of integrating the resources of historical research in China and promoting the historical research in China.

Among the 5 centers, Center of Systems of Disciplines, Studies and Discourses in Historical Research in China will study the construction of “the three systems”. Research Center of Overseas Chinese Historical Documents will investigate, collect, edit, protect and study Chinese historical documents scattered overseas. Research Center of Oracle Bones will promote the study of oracle bones and traditional Chinese culture. Research Center of the Historical Knowledge System in Modern China will provide systematic research on the historical theories, concepts and institutes. Center of Comparative Study between Chinese Civilization and Pre-Modern World Civilizations will explore the differences and similarities between Chinese civilization and traditional world civilizations, and interpret the basis of the duration of ancient Chinese civilization in over 5000 years.

The 5 nationwide non-entity centers are managed by CASS and are attached to different institutes. Their core responsibilities include breaking academic isolation, organizing leading historians all over China, and promoting various academic activities. The establishment of the 5 nationwide non-entity centers is one important step toward establishing the subject system, academic system and discourse system of philosophy and social sciences with Chinese characteristics since the birth of CAH on January the 3rd, 2019.
