Academic Report by Professor Jinyu Liu from DePauw University, USA

　　On October 22nd, 2021, the Department of Ancient and Medieval History, IWH and the Center for Comparative Studies of Ancient Civilizations, Chinese Academy of History, invited Professor Jinyu Liu, DePauw University, USA to gave an online lecture entitled “Roman Empire and collegia: Supervision and Promotion”. In the lecture, she made a systematic appraisal to the literary, legal and epigraphic evidence to the Roman association (collegium), incoporating the new epigraphic finds from the city of Pompeii, discussed the formation and development of collegia in a chronological perspective , analysed how the Roman central and local governments supervised the potential dangerous collegia and promoted certain useful collegia, thus revealed the complexity of relationship between collegia and Roman authorities.
