Academic Report on History of Silk Road by Professor Xinru Liu from New Jersey College, U.S.

On March 9, 2022, Xinru Liu, professor of the History Department at the College of New Jersey, was invited to give a lecture entitled "Geographical scope and topographical overview of the Silk Road". Liu is also a guest research fellow of the Institute of World History (IWH), Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Center for Comparative Studies of Ancient Civilizations (CCSAC), Chinese Academy of History .
This was the first of a series lectures on the history of Silk Road which will consist of twelve reports and be cosponsored by CCSAC, the Department of Ancient and Medieval History and the Department of “Belt and Road” History, IWH.
Liu gave a general introduction to the geographic scope and topography of the Silk Road from the perspective of historical development. She emphasized that the flow of people and materials between ecological regions promoted the interaction between the east and the west of Eurasia. The movement of forest tribes to prairie, the migration of steppe nomads to Agricultural Oasis and large-scale agricultural societies were all dynamics of the Silk Road.
