Correspondence: The 2017 Annual Conference of China Research Society of the USSR and East European History

On November the 24-27th, 2017, the 2017 annual conference of China Research Society of the USSR and East European History was held at Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, Chengdu, Sichuan Province. The annual conference was organized by China Research Society of the USSR and East European History, Southwestern University of Finance and Economics and IWH. It was incorporated into “The 2017 Forum of Chinese Social Sciences”. The theme of the conference is “The 100th Anniversary of October Revolution (1917): Historical Facts, Narrative and Memory”. Nearly 70 scholars from CASS and other academies of social sciences, Compilation and Translation Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Jilin University, Northeast Normal University, Heilongjiang University, Nanjing University, East China Normal University, Suzhou University of Science and Technology, Shaanxi Normal University, Northwest University in China, Southwest University, Hainan University, Hainan Normal University took part in the conference.
The opening ceremony of the conference was held in the morning of November the 25th. Xiaoju Wang (associate director of China Research Society of the USSR and East European History) presided over the ceremony. Wangjing Rao (associate director of IWH), Shengfa Zhang (associate director and secretary-general of China Research Society of the USSR and East European History) and Feng Zhao (associate director of Academic Research Office, Southwestern University of Finance and Economics) gave opening speeches respectively. Wangjing Rao congratulated on the opening of the conference on behalf of IWH. He pointed out that 2017 is the 100th anniversary of October Revolution (1917), which is a milestone in world history. It is suitable and important for so many scholars to gather to discuss “The 100th Anniversary of October Revolution (1917): Historical Facts, Narrative and Memory”. After the opening ceremony, Lifu Huang (associate director of China Research Society of the USSR and East European History) presided over the lectures of the main meeting. Researcher Jingjie Li (academician of CASS) delivered a lecture titled “Several Key Elements in Sino-Russian Relations”. He gave a historical retrospect on the complex development of Sino-Russian relations and pointed out that the USSR is the most important and influential element for China in the last century. Researcher Shengfa Zhang from Institute of Russia, East Europe and Central Asia Studies reported the latest tendency in the official celebration in Russia in 2017, that is to name the traditional “February Revolution” and “October Revolution” together as “Russian Revolution in 1917 (Русская революция 1917 года)” or “the Russian Revolution (Великаярусская/ российская революция)”. Researcher Xiaoju Wang from IWH introduced the international seminars on October Revolution (1917) held at Moscow and Vladivostok by her personal experience. Researcher Xiangmei Xu from Section of Contemporary Marxism Studies, Compilation and Translation Bureau of the CPC Central Committee analyzed the contemporary attitudes of Russia and East European countries to October Revolution (1917).
