Correspondence: The Seventh Symposium on World History Studies of Chinese Academies of Social Sciences

On October the 29th, 2017, the seventh symposium on world history studies of Chinese academies of social sciences was held in Chengdu. The symposium was organized by IWH, CASS and held by Chengdu Academy of Social Sciences and Jinsha Think-Tank of Chengdu. The main topic of the symposium is “The Belt and Road and the History of International Economic and Cultural Communication of China”. It contains four sub-topics, namely “The Belt and Road in the Perspective of World History Studies”, “International Economic and Cultural Communications of China”, “World History Studies” and one local theme “The Culture of Sichuan and the Worlds Outside”. Scholars also discussed themes such as “Chinese Academies of Social Sciences and World History Studies” and “Issues of Great Contention in World History Studies”.
The organizers of the conference received 23 academic papers on world history studies from academies of social sciences and universities in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Harbin, Qiqihar, Changchun, Urumqi, Zhengzhou, Xi’an, Baoji, Jingdezhen, Shangqiu and Nanchang and 20 papers on culture of Sichuan. Scholars presented their papers and organized discussions on a variety of topics.
In the symposium, scholars made academic communication with each other and discussed relevant themes vividly and in depth. They believe that the symposium will play a positive role to promote the development of world history studies in China. They also hope that such nationwide symposiums on world history studies of academies of social sciences will continue in order to make use of the Think-Tank function and academic research value of academies of social sciences in the development of China.
