Academic Report by Professor Xinru Liu from New Jersey College, U.S.

　　On April 1st, 2021, the Department of Ancient and Medieval History, IWH, invited Professor Xinru Liu, History Department, New Jersey College, U.S. to give an online lecture entitled “The Spread of Buddhism through Language and Art.” Professor Liu is also a gust research fellow of IWH. In her lecture, she introduced the spread of Buddhism and the involvement of specified languages and art when Buddhism was spreading in South East Asia, Central Asia and China. In the question and answer session, Professor Liu discussed the relationship between the use of language in Buddhist texts and ancient Greek theatre. The lecture is also the first lecture of the year hosted by Center for Comparative Studies of Ancient Civilizations, Chinese Acedemy of History .
