Academic Lecture on “The Last Days of the Byzantine Empire and Its Historical Heritage” by Professor Zhiqiang Chen

　　On November 10th, 2020, the Department of Ancient and Medieval History, IWH, invited Professor Zhiqiang Chen, Faculty of History Department, Nankai University, to give an online lecture entitled “The Last Days of the Byzantine Empire and Its Historical Heritage” in Gucheng Hall of the Chinese Academy of History. Professor Chen is a renowned expert on Byzantine history and has fruitful research achievements in this field.

　　He summed up the historical status and long-term influence of Byzantine culture. In his view, the Byzantine culture was comprehensive, and the inheritor of diverse cultures of the ancient Mediterranean world in the dimension of space, as well as a bridge from the classical world to the modern world in the dimension of time, connecting the past and the future.
