ABSTRACT
This essay includes four parts which are the introduction, the six-chapter main body, references and the postscript.
The introduction gives the realistic meaning and the theoretical significance of this essay in a scientific way and also gives the all over summary of the research results of this subject at home and abroad.
Chapter One-A brief account of Wallerstein's life and his academic experiences. The formation of Wallerstein's view of time and space reflects his view of world and epistemology which closely relates his methods to do his research. And his view of world and his academic interests due to the historical and academic backgroud and are also influenced by his own experiences. This chapter aims to explain the formation of Wallerstein's academic road to the readers clearly based on the relations between his growing experiences and academic interests.
Chapter Two-The historical background of Wallerstein's theory. Any kind of mature theory is the production of history and ages, so is the theory on history of human society. Firstly when it comes to the research subject, all historians have historical limitations which decides they do the research with their view of history influenced by their times. Most of them try to solve the problems of their own times and also grasp the future by studying old histories. Wallerstein's theory is also production of history and has its own background of ages and academics. In this chapter the author will make a brief introduction of the age background between the end of the Second World War and 1970 to explain the academic background and the real reason that the theory of"the modern world system" is formed. This chapter also gives a general idea of Modernization theory and Attachment theory.
Chapter Three-The academic source of Wallerstein's view of time and space. This chapter mainly analyses the significant inspire and influence of Wallerstein's view of time and space by Marxism, Long-term theory and Theory of dissipative structure. This chapter clear out that the time and space concept structure which is the foundation that theory of "the modern world system" is formed is the core concept of theory of "the modern world system".
Chapter Four-Wallerstein's view of time and space and world system analysis. This chapter explains how Wallerstein finished the time and space concept structure of his own on basis of Marxism, Long-term theory and Theory of dissipative structure and also analyses specific expression of this time and space concept in world system analysis.
Chapter Five-The meaning of Wallerstein's view of time and space epistemology. This chapter gives four meanings of influences by this time and space view to studies of history of social system which includes a plurality of understanding of time and space concept, an overall understanding of world, an understanding of the complexity of world and a exceeding understanding over the difference between traditional western social science and history.
Chapter Six-The significant meaning of Wallerstein's view of time and space methodology. This chapter indicates that Wallerstein formed his own unique dynamic and Integration of disciplines methodology.
